How to transfer ownership of a repo

There are a lot of reasons to transfer ownership of a repository. Many users create their own repositories in their user accounts and would like to transfer it to an organization. Contract manufacturers might transfer ownership of a design after they have completed it.

It's easy to transfer repos with our web interface

Transfer a repository.

TLDR Repo settings->Repository->Danger Zone->Transfer Ownership

1. Visit the repository you'd like to transfer
2. Click on the settings wrench
3. Click on the Repository tab
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the "Danger Zone"
5. If you don't see the Danger Zone, you do not have repository permissions. Ask an admin to give you a highway to the danger zone
6. Click on "Transfer Ownership"
7. Type the repository name in the Repository Name field
8. Type the new owner/organization in the New Owner field
9. Double check your typing
10. Triple check your typing
11. Click Perform Transfer
12. The target organization might have to manually accept the transfer
